Sportscape Education: Employer apprenticeship incentives 2026 -funding, payments and support for hiring apprentices

Recent updates to apprenticeship incentives mean there is now more financial support available for businesses looking to invest in new talent and workforce development.

For employers, these incentives can provide valuable support while helping businesses grow stronger teams for the future.

Current support available includes:

£1,000 additional payments for employers hiring apprentices aged 16-18, or up to age 24 for care leavers and those with an EHCP;

£2,000 Foundation Apprenticeship Incentives available for eligible young people, including care leavers and prison leavers, helping businesses create opportunities for individuals starting their careers;

£2,000 SME Hiring Incentives designed to support small and medium-sized businesses taking on apprentices aged 16-24;

£3,000 Universal Credit Hiring Incentives for employers supporting eligible young adults into employment and training opportunities.

While the financial incentives are a welcome benefit, apprenticeships also help businesses develop skilled, motivated employees who can grow alongside the organisation.

More employers are now using apprenticeships not only to recruit new talent, but also to upskill existing staff, strengthen retention and create long-term career pathways within their teams.

Apprenticeships allow businesses to shape training around their own values, standards and goals — creating a workforce built specifically for the future of the company.

At Sportscape Education, we work closely with employers to help them understand the opportunities available and support them throughout the apprenticeship journey.
