Sportscape Education: Why Youth Mental Health First Aid Training is essential in education
Supporting the wellbeing of young people is just as important as supporting their academic and personal development.
It’s why every member of our staff undertakes the Youth Mental Health First Aid course as part of our commitment to learner welfare and safeguarding.
Recently, Head of Education Millie Jones completed her Youth Mental Health First Aider training, continuing Sportscape Education’s focus on ensuring staff are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to support young people who may be facing mental health challenges.
The training helps education professionals recognise the signs of mental health concerns, understand how to approach conversations sensitively and know where to direct learners for further support when needed.
At a time when more young people are speaking openly about anxiety, stress and emotional wellbeing, Sportscape Education believes it is vital for staff to create environments where learners feel safe, listened to and understood.
For many students, having access to trusted adults who can identify concerns early and offer reassurance can make a lasting difference both inside and outside of education.
Sportscape Education works with learners across a variety of programmes and understands that every young person’s journey is different.
By investing in Youth Mental Health First Aid training for all staff, we are reinforcing our commitment to providing inclusive, supportive and positive learning environments.
Millie said the course was an important and valuable experience, helping strengthen the support systems available to learners throughout their education journey.
As conversations around mental health continue to grow across the UK, Sportscape Education remains committed to putting student wellbeing at the heart of everything it does.
