Sportscape Education apprentices develop marketing skills on Level 2 Community Activator coach apprenticeship

Apprentices studying the Level 2 Community Activator Coach qualification with Sportscape Education recently took part in a dedicated training day focused on marketing and promotion.

The session aimed to highlight an often overlooked but increasingly important part of working in community sport, the ability to effectively promote activities and engage with local audiences.

During the apprenticeship day, learners were tasked with analysing how organisations market their programmes before creating their own promotional materials.

Working in groups, the apprentices produced a range of content designed to attract participants and raise awareness of community sport initiatives.

Among the materials created were flyers advertising holiday clubs, “Meet the Team” style social media posts aimed at building trust and engagement with families, and partnership announcement posts designed to showcase collaboration between organisations.

The exercise encouraged the apprentices to think about how sports organisations communicate with parents, participants and the wider community, as well as how clear messaging and creative content can help increase participation.

While coaching skills remain central to the role of a Level 2 Community Activator Coach, the session demonstrated how wider skills such as marketing, communication and teamwork are becoming increasingly valuable within the sector.

By developing these abilities alongside their coaching knowledge, apprentices gain a broader understanding of how community sport programmes operate and how they can successfully attract and retain participants.

Sportscape Education’s apprenticeship programmes aim to prepare learners for real-world roles within the sport and physical activity sector, combining practical coaching experience with classroom-based learning.

Tutors said it was encouraging to see the creativity and enthusiasm shown by the cohort, with apprentices producing a variety of imaginative promotional ideas during the session.

The day provided another opportunity for learners to build the confidence, knowledge and transferable skills that will support them as they continue their journey into careers within community sport.
